Kozcağız Dam Project
Geosynthetic Reinforced Wall, Product: Terramesh System
Problem: The Kozcagiz Water Dam project is one of the biggest water-related investments by DSI in the Bartin province providing water to a total of 24.600 decares of agricultural area. The dam construction consists of clayish sand-gravel backfill and ends up in a total height of 54 meters. The aim of the Kozcağız Dam is the constant water supply of the agricultural Bartin region and additionally the protection of the region from floods and resulting damages.
Problem and Solution: In scope of the Kozcagiz Dam project an additional construction of berms was required and the construction of this geosynthetic-supported berm is still ongoing. Since the bottom section will be pemanently located under water, the berm type and supporting geosythetic materials are crucial for the successfull, long-term stabilization of the system. Therefore, a Terramesh system has been designed. In the foresight of possible instabilities and settlements of the ground, the system needs to perform on a high level.
Solution: For the Terramesh system of the Kozcagiz Dam project, planary reinforcement materials with a high tensile strength in one direction and composite geosynthetic stripes are being utilized. Regarding the settlement problems, a piling platform was constructed as base of the berm in order to stabilize the system.
Terramesh System berms are being utilized with Double-twisted Wire Mesh which provides a long-term service life and is filled with hard rocks and supported by geosynthetic reinforcements. This elastic system responds to the latest architectural requirements for retaining walls and faces problems like settlement successfully.
