Other Concrete Uses

Through our knowledge and experience in fibre reinforcement, we offer clients the potential to improve the performance of concrete in many other applications.

For example, in some countries around the world, shotcreting slopes to stabilise slopes and surface run-off is a popular solution. Although, we would propose more environmentally friendly solutions first, we recognise that some clients prefer a harder armour layer of shotcrete. In these cases, adding Wirand® steel or FibroMac™ micro-polymer fibres into the concrete mix can improve the performance of that final concrete solution. Cast-insitu concrete can also benefit from the addition of fibres.

Customising the fibre types and blend within the concrete mix to suit the concrete end-product, brings many benefits. Wirand® Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) and Fibromac™ polymer fibres, increase the durability, ductility, shear, impact resistance and fire resistance of the ensuing concrete. Other benefits include:

– Reduced complex steel reinforcement detailing
– Improved freeze-thaw / thermal resistance
– Reduced early-age cracking
– Earlier removal of formwork
