Environment, Dewatering & Landfills
Understanding safe disposal. Worldwide, the disposal of waste materials is an increasing problem which demands greater landfill capacity. It is important to recognise that a landfill is not just a ‘dump’ for waste, but a living organism, bringing constantly changing engineering challenges. With the continual aim to preserve nature and protect the environment, we offer clients our experience in the development of integrated designs for landfills and the protection of polluted areas.
Protecting the earth. This applies not only to landfills but also to situations where there is a need to protect the native ground from contamination by external sources including; mining leachate lagoons or heap-leach pads, storm water attenuation ponds next to highways and slurry storage cells in agriculture.
Key differences our experience understands. Although the solutions are technically similar between mining and infrastructure, there are key differences that the geosynthetic solution has to address; greater loads, heat, design life and chemical operating conditions. This capability is leveraged from our existing deep knowledge of geotechnical stability applications and experience in waterproofing systems.
Various uses of ‘Mac’ products. The use of geogrids to reinforce soil, enables the steepening of slopes within landfill cells, maximising the volumes available for waste disposal. Our MacLine® impermeable liners contain, cap and protect pollution from contained waste material and MacMat® limits erosion from the slopes of these installations. MacDrain® drainage geomposites drain fluids (liquids or gases) from landfills and with a flexible and extensive manufacturing capability, we can customise products to suit specific project requirements.
Maccaferri legislative compliance. We offer a wide range of materials and technologies, including geogrids, drainage geocomposites, impermeable liners and soil stabilisation systems. With CE marking, these products and our solutions meet appropriate legislative requirements. Experience gained with many projects has led to numerous innovations such as geogrids reinforcing waste material, and also the presence of our personnel during the preparation of EU landfill regulations. In some regions of the world, we offer site supervision and full turn-key solutions in this important sector.
